Tripping Up was awarded Best Comedy in the Shorts Too (Under 10 min) category at FirstGlance Philadelphia. The event was at the Franklin Theater at the Franklin Institute (a beautiful theater by the way).

Action/Cut Short Film Competition Semi-Finalist

Tripping Up was just named a Semi-Finalist in the Action/Cut 2009 Short Film Competition. This was the 6th annual competition run by Action/Cut, and received more than 1,000 entrants from all over the world. Action/Cut was founded by Guy Magar, an accomplished film and television director.

A while back I took a film making workshop conducted by Guy, and found his direct and practical approach extremely helpful. I highly recommend the two-day Action/Cut workshops if you are looking for solid advice on film production, including networking and film funding. He knows his stuff and doesn’t mince words.

Tripping Up wins Best Comedy at West Chester Film Festival

Sunday night was a good night. Tripping Up won Best Comedy at the 2009 West Chester Film Festival, and was runner up for Best Film by a Pennsylvania Filmmaker. Leo was there to accept the award. The awards party was held at The Note in West Chester – cool place if you are ever out that way.

Two Screenings at West Chester Film Festival

Got the screening schedule for the West Chester Film Festival this coming weekend. Friday April 24 at 7pm and Saturday, April 25 at 12:00pm. Both screenings are at the Chester County Historical Society. We can use your vote for the Audience award so if you are anywhere in the Philadelphia area venture over and watch some great short films.

Tripping Up in West Chester Film Festival

Great news! Tripping Up has been selected to screen at the West Chester Film Festival! The festival runs April 23-26, at venues in the town of West Chester, PA. This is the festival’s fifth year and they receive entries from all over the United States and Canada, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australia!

A Little Background

Tripping Up was shot in the summer of 2008, and starred two incredibly talented young actors, Laura Piccoli and Leo Koorhan. We entered the film in A&E Indie Films Third Screen Film Festival, and amongst hundreds of entries Tripping Up ranked in the Top 5 when the competition ended.

The competing films were from all over the world and Tripping Up would never have ranked that high without the support and word-of-mouth promotion provided by friends. Because of that support we were encouraged to embark on another short film, which is now in pre-production.
